LOUISIANA'S
MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS
All
motor vehicles registered in Louisiana are required to have an annual
inspection. This inspection must be conducted at a state authorized
inspection station that displays the large red sign designated as
STATE OF LOUISIANA OFFICIAL MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
If
your vehicle is registered in one of the cities listed below, your
vehicle cannot be inspected by the State. The cities are Kenner,
New Orleans, and Westwego. These areas have their own inspection
programs and are not regulated by the State.
YOU
WILL NEED TO PRESENT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE
INSPECTED:
- CURRENT
REGISTRATION
- VALID
DRIVER'S LICNESE OR I.D.
- VALID
LICENSE PLATE
- PROOF
OF INSURANCE
INSPECTION
PROCEDURE
You
should allow 5 to 10 minutes for the inspection to be completed.
The inspector will check the following items on your vehicle.

- VEHCILES IS ROAD TESTED FOR BRAKE PERFORMANCE
- SPEEDOMETER
AND ODOMETER
- HORN
HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS STOP LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS
- MIRRORS
- WINDSHIELD
WIPERS
- WINDOW
TINTING
- FENDERS
AND BUMPERS
- CONDITION
OF TIRES
- DOORS
AND WINDOWS
- SUSPENSION
AND SHOCK ABSORBERS
- SEATS
AND SEAT BELTS
- EXHAUST
SYSTEM
- ALL
EMISSION DEVICES
WHAT
IF ANY OF THESE ITEMS FAIL TO MEET THE STATE'S REQUIREMENTS?
When
a vehicle fails any part of the inspection, a rejection sticker
will be placed on the windshield of the vehicle. A rejection sticker
is valid for a periods of 30 days and a fee will be collected for
the inspection whether the vehicle passes or fails the inspection.
The vehicle owner is under no obligation to have defective items
repaired or replaced by the inspection station.
After
the defective item is corrected, the vehicle must be returned within
30 days of the original inspection, to the inspection station where
the vehicles was rejected. Once the defective item is checked and
the correction(s) approved, a valid inspection sticker will be issued.
HOW
MUCH IS THE INSPECTION?
A
$10.00 FEE IS ASSESSED FOR A REGULAR INSPECTION WHICH INCLUDES PASSENGER
CARS, LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS AND RECREATIONAL VEHICLES.
